CrazyDrill Pilot
The ideal preparation of deep holes
CrazyDrill Pilot, short drill, pilot drill and chamfer tool, is the perfect hole preparation for high-precision position accuracy in deep-hole drilling of lengths greater than 6 x d using twist drill types CrazyDrill Cool XL and CrazyDrill Cool.
With the coated pilot drill or center drill CrazyDrill Pilot from Mikron Tool, centering and pilot drilling up to 2 x d are done in one single step. The follow-up drill is guided cylindrically in the pilot hole and this translates to a high degree of straightness for the hole. The precise adjustment of the tip angle from pilot drill to follow-up drill protects cutting edges and ensures reliability. CrazyDrill Pilot is available from stock in diameters of 0.4 mm to 6.35 mm (.016” to .250”, fractional inches available).
Its special high-performance geometry ensures high machining speed and the optimal coating increases tool life, and all of this while maintaining constant drilling precision.
Centering with the pilot drill CrazyDrill Pilot
In conventional centering with a 90° or 120° centering tool, the risk of cutting edge breakage and hole drifting is significant when a long follow-up drill is used. The follow-up drill, with a tip angle of 140°, first encounters the cutting edges at the 90° chamfer and is not accurately guided. CrazyDrill Pilot from Mikron Tool replaces classic centering with pilot drilling with a drilling depth of 2 x d. The follow-up drill is perfectly guided in the pilot hole, thus ensuring the straightness of the deep hole. Because of the sturdy design, the pilot drilling achieves a high degree of position accuracy. Moreover, the follow-up drill guarantees significantly longer tool life since cutting edge breakage is prevented by the two mutually adapted tip angles (140° in all long CrazyDrill drills).
Chamfering of 90° also takes place simultaneously. This corresponds to the function of a countersink drill bit but not that of a DIN centering hole since no additional protective chamfer is created.
Short drilling with the pilot drill CrazyDrill Pilot
This pilot drill has also proven its worth when used as a short drill where it achieves long tool life and hole quality due to its stable design (reinforced shaft) and ideal coating. It can be used at high cutting speeds and feed rates due to its tip geometry. The degressive helical flutes allow the reliable and direct creation of the 90° chamfer.
Important: adapted to the CrazyDrill program
CrazyDrill Pilot is perfectly adapted to other products in the CrazyDrill line. With a diameter range of 0.4 to 6.35 mm (.016” to .250”, fractional inches available) this pilot drill is perfectly suitable as preparation for the deep holes produced by CrazyDrill in lengths greater than 6 x d. The tolerances are aligned so that there is no measurable step on the transition point between pilot drilling to deep drilling when using CrazyDrill drills.
