Precise and efficient drilling with drills from 0.2 mm (.008")

    Centering and pilot drilling

    CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous NN 5 x d

    • No centering or pilot drill is needed thanks to the high degree of self-centering capability
    • In case of inclined surfaces, CrazyDrill Crosspilot should be used as pilot drill.
    • When dealing with irregular and/or rough surfaces, to achieve high-precision position accuracy, CrazyDrill Twicenter may be used as a center drill.

    CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous NN/NK 8 x d

Because of the high degree of self-centering capability, CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous can be used on regular and straight surfaces without a centering or pilot hole for drilling depths up to 8 x d.

Higher requirements: for irregular or rough or inclined surfaces or for the highest degree of position accuracy, Mikron Tool recommends:

    CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous NN/NK 12 x d

Mikron Tool recommends a center or pilot hole for CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous 12 x d

Centering with CrazyDrill Twicenter is the perfect combination for a precise hole (position accuracy) and a stable machining process.

The pilot drill CrazyDrill Crosspilot does the same when drilling on inclined surfaces.

Tolerance of the pilot drill CrazyDrill Crosspilot (inclined holes) (k6):

    • Ø 0.4 - 3.0 mm (.004" - .118"): 0 mm /+ 0.006 mm (.0” /+ .00024”)
    • Ø 3.1 - 6.0 mm (.122" - .232"): + 0.001 mm  / + 0.009 mm (+.00004”  / +.00035”)
    • Ø 6.35 mm (1/4"): + 0.001 mm  / + 0.010 mm (+.00004”  / +.00039”)

    Tolerance of follow-up drill CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous NN/NK 8 x d and 12 x d (k6):

    • Ø 0.2 - 2.0 mm (.008" - .079"): 0 mm /+ 0.006 mm (.0” /+ .00024”)

    Tolerance of follow-up drill CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous NN 5 x d:

    • (k6) Ø 2.0 - 3.0 mm (.079" - .118"): 0 mm /+ 0.006 mm (.0” /+ .00024”)
    • (k6) Ø 3.1 - 5.9 mm (.122" - .232"): + 0.001 mm  / + 0.009 mm (+.00004”  / +.00035”)
    • (f6) Ø 6.0 mm (.236"): - 0.010 mm  / - 0.018 mm (-.00039”  / +.00071”)
    • (k6) Ø 6.35 mm (1/4"): + 0.001 mm  / + 0.010 mm (+.00004”  / +.00039”)

    Drilling process

    General information

In the industry of metal work tools, shorter processing times are always in high demand. At the same time, the requirements to the manufacturing precision and the process reliability are extremely high. In order to fulfill these requirements, the "machine tool – spindle – tool – tool holder" system need to be considered as a whole (see Tech Specs).

For the use of the types of drill bits CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous, CrazyDrill Twicenter and CrazyDrill Crosspilot, Mikron Tool has defined a fast and process-reliable procedure which achieves optimum drilling results.

    Non-Ferrous drilling up to 8 x d

    1. For irregular respectively rough or inclined surfaces or for the highest degree of position accuracy Mikron Tool recommends: Centering or pilot drilling
    2. For regular surfaces: Drilling up to 5 x d resp. 8 x d in one step

    Non-Ferrous drilling for 12 x d

    1. Center drilling resp. pilot drilling (in one step)
    2. Drilling in several pecks (deep-drilling cycle with chip breaking and chip removal)

Drilling according to DIN 66025 / PAL

G83 deep-drilling cycle with chip break and chip removal
Q = depth of the respective peck

    1. Centering or pilot drilling:

    2. Drilling:

    • With CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous up to maximum drilling depth Q1 in one step, followed by peck to remove chips

    • Further pecks Qx according to cutting data table, followed by peck to remove chips

    Note:

Between pecks, take the drill completely out from the bore. After the drill reached desired cutting depth, return at increased feed rate (or in case of perfect conditions rapid traverse) to safety position.

    Tested and approved

Mikron Tool has determined the ideal cutting parameters (drilling speed to tool life ratio and process reliability) when using CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous NN and CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous NK. The detailed cutting data tested by Mikron Tool, such as cutting speed Vc, feed rate f and material removal rate Q, permit quick and secure machining.

The overview of the cutting values table according to material group, material type, hardness degree and tensile strength, material number, DIN and AISI/ASTM/UNS permits quick determination of the parameters to be used.

    Packaging

A high-quality, impact-resistant, and user-friendly single package is provided for all CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous drills.
