Solid carbide drill bits for lead-free brass,
aluminium, copper, and other non-ferrous metalsstant and heat-resistant steel

With CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous NN/NK Mikron Tool offers two exclusive drill types for drilling non-ferrous metals up to 12 x d, in the diameter range starting from 0.2 mm up to 6.35 mm (.008” - .250”, fractional inches available).

  • CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous type NK (8 x d / 12 x d) has internal coolant channels through the shank, it’s available in the diameter range from 0.2 mm to 2.0 mm (.008” to .079”, fractional inches available) and is not suitable for regrinding.
  • CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous type NN for drilling with external coolant supply. This version is available:
    • 8 x d and 12 x d with a diameter range from 0.2 mm to 2.0 mm (.008” to .079”, fractional inches available) and is not suitable for regrinding
    • 5 x d with a diameter range from 2.0 mm to 6.35 mm (.079" to .250", fractional inches available), it is suitable for regrinding.

When it comes to machining challenging materials like lead-free brass, aluminium, copper, and other non-ferrous alloys, these new dedicated drill bits from Mikron Tool deliver unmatched precision. Engineered with a revolutionary geometry that sets a new industry benchmark, these high-performance drills significantly extend tool life and boost drilling feeds and pecking steps up to 6 x d compared to standard market alternatives.

Optimized pilot drilling strategies

Achieving positional accuracy requires the right preparation. Depending on your drilling depth and surface conditions, Mikron Tool recommends the following tailored configurations:

  • For drilling depths up to 8 x d: CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous can be deployed directly on flat, uniform surfaces without prior centering or pilot holes.
  • For irregular or rough surfaces: To ensure stability, it’s recommended to use either the pilot drill CrazyDrill Pilot SST-Inox or the CrazyDrill Twicenter centering drill, both equipped with internal cooling.
  • For deep holes up to 12 x d: Seamlessly prepare the workflow by using the CrazyDrill Pilot SST-Inox with integrated cooling as the ideal pilot solution.
  • For angled or inclined surfaces: The CrazyDrill Crosspilot serves as the perfect specialized pilot drill for 5 x d, 8 × d and 12 × d depths.

CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous:
Next-Gen micro-drilling innovation

The CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous series represents a major technological leap forward for high-reliability micro-drilling of non-ferrous alloys, starting at ultra-small diameters of just 0.2 mm (.008”).

Engineered for absolute stability

Built with a solid tungsten carbide shaft, this micro-drill eliminates vibrations to guarantee highly stable machining cycles. The proprietary carbide substrate was developed specifically for non-ferrous applications, boasting exceptional fracture toughness, superior bending strength, and maximum thermal shock resistance. It is the ultimate answer to the strict manufacturing demands of copper, aluminium, and lead-free brass alloys.

Revolutionary geometry for superior chip control

This specialized drill breaks away from conventional market standards through a series of proprietary design innovations:

Advanced tip design: A polished tip section combined with a minimized web thickness reduces feed force, enhances self-centering capabilities, and forces long-chipping materials into shorter, manageable chips, effectively preventing edge chipping.

Friction reduction: The optimized tip geometry minimizes torque and eliminates the risk of tool jamming during the drilling process.

Patented digressive flute technology

Efficient chip evacuation is managed by a unique, patented digressive helical flute divided into two distinct zones:

  1. Higher helix angle zone: Engineered for immediate and efficient chip formation.
  2. Lower helix angle zone: Optimized for chip breaking and smooth, frictionless chip evacuation out of the hole.

By combining these advanced features, manufacturers benefit from drastically improved tool life, maximum process reliability, and a significant boost in overall production throughput.

New coating

The new TDP ceramic-based coating minimizes adhesion through its smooth surface, and combined with the optimized cutting geometry, it enables improved chip flow and more stable cutting conditions. Therefore, built-up edge issues, which are commonly encountered when drilling these alloys, are also avoided.

Key features of the ceramic‑based coating include:

  • Hardness of 4000 HV
  • Excellent wear resistance
  • Reduced heat generation
  • Prevention of material adhesion on the cutting edge
  • Low friction coefficient (≤ 0.15)

CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous NK
with internal coolant supply

The CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous NK version is designed for high-performance drilling in non-ferrous materials and features integrated through-tool cooling. Three to four coolant channels run through the tool shank, delivering coolant directly to the cutting zone.

This targeted coolant flow helps control heat generation, supports reliable chip evacuation from the spiral flute, and contributes to longer tool life. Thanks to the efficient integrated cooling system, drilling can be performed with deeper pecking steps compared to the external coolant version CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous NN.

For maximum productivity and process reliability, Mikron Tool recommends the NK variant whenever the machine spindle supports through-spindle coolant.

Your custom CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous

Mikron Tool also offers custom versions of CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous:
